Initial Objective
The digitization of a complex set of business processes for a large pharmaceutical firm, designing for continuous extensions and scale.
Project Evolution
This project has involved incremental development, progressing towards a true Comprehensive Data Solution (CDS). We have used an agile type of project management, to continually get user buy-in, enable the client to keep ownership and control of project direction, and to set reachable goals in reasonable time frames.
The application has assumed the migration of disparate data stores into a single data matrix (set of databases/data stores), to provide a single, relationally connected set of the entire site’s data models.
The application is a SaaS application with a user interface for data entry, process management, complex querying, data analysis and quality control, and provides a granular security model for easy configuration and updating of user access.
Learning the Industry
We have invested in learning about the pharmaceutical space, including theory, R & D processes, manufacturing, regulations, user experience and more. We also continue to learn what happens in the gemba, the actual workplace, and collaborate together to come up with a series of useful and intuitive software solutions. This requires creativity and attention to all that is needed.
Comprehensive Data Solution (CDS)
This application captures what we mean by CDS:
- Collect all data in an effective manner
- Store data in such a way that it can be retrieved and queried effectively and quickly
- Analyze the data – one of the main reasons for developing digital data solutions
- Data presentation from customized forms for data querying and updating, to graphs and dashboards
- Creating Certificates of Analysis – the means to put the data onto pixel-perfect PDF documents
Roadmap
Because of the exponential growth of technology and the ever-changing business requirements, the best data solutions exist in a constantly evolving state. The idea of creating a build-it-once and use it in that state forever is no longer an option, so the need for full scaling, extensibility, and agile changes.
